The caption for this image from Frank Lesley’s Illustrated Newspaper (1875) identifies this as 15-year-old Robert Steele of Dedham. Not exactly the little drummer boy, in my opinion. I guess war ages you. To learn all about Robert and his contributions during the Revolution, take the Revolutionary Dedham Walking Tour I have put together for the Dedham Museum and Archive. This one hour tour takes us to sites around Dedham Square and is filled with stories of the people and events in Dedham 250 years ago. We’ll even walk through the Village Avenue Cemetery and visit the graves of Minutemen who fought on April 19, 1775. You’d be surprised at the fascinating history to be found along the route of this tour!
